question whether that country cân "con- tinue to maintain the Gold Stand- ard turns on the fate of the Gov- ernment, which has postponed un- ti to-day Its decision whether to resign or to ask for a General Election. Dr. Collin, the Prime Minister, has up to now falled to

find the necessary support for his. policy of economy combined with a cut in the interest upon certain. Goverment securities. The with "drawal of the Roman Catholic vote leaves him without a majority. Whether his opponents have suff- cient unity to form a Government, or boldness enough to abandon gold, is doubtful. Holland is con- fronted with the dilemma that re- "cently faced France, and the pre- sent expectation is that she will decide, as has France, for the economies necessary, to balance the Budget rather than for the perils of devaluation.
