BEATEN AT STATION When questioned regarding this statement, defendant said that he was forced to make it, as he was "beaten by a Policeman." He re- called. that this same policeman was a member of the raiding party on the night in question.
Defendant also dented that he was the tenant of the floor on which all the exhibits, d'splayed in Court, were found. He only saw a beti. I trestless, tables and two stoves which were in the rear room.
With regard to the two bottles of chemicals found at his abode at 30 Po Kwong Road, he could easily account for this as they were put there by Lei Tam, who asked him to look after them. The chief witness Lai Kin was then called and gave his story of what happened on the night of September 9, 1934. The officer for the prosecution, Detective Sergeant Mattram, told the Court that there had been certain correspondence between the Heng Kong and Canton Consular authorities regarding Khan. He continued that the British Consul- General in Canton had written to Inquire whether accused would be allowed in Hong Kong as he had made a deposit of $100 as security in Canton. The Police requested that no facility be granted de- fendant to came here as the money he deposit in Canton was no guar antee, of his finding a job here. In spite of this the defendant came to Hong Kong two or three days ago when he was arrested by an Indian detective at Canton whart. Defendant was remanded for 24 hours in castody, bail in the sum of $50 béing allowed.

The Shun Lee Yuen Firm was cited as plaintiff in a Summary Action brought before the Pulsne Judge, Mr. Justice R. E. Lindsell: yesterday for the recovery of $881.n 18 (the equivalent of $1233.85 Can- ton Currency) for goods sold and delivered, against the Yau Woo Firm and Tse Wai Man, the managing partner thereof.
Mr. G. E. Lowe appeared for the plaintiff while the defendants were absent.
Proving his case Mr. Lowe put Ng Lat Chi, the managing partafer of the Shun Lee Firm, into the witness box. Ng stated that on October 27:1033, Lai Chi Ying who was known as a broker came down from Canton with the second de- fendant Tse Wat Man and called at his office.
