Students On Canton Cruisers
(From Our Special Correspondent):
Canton, June 28. Naval cadets who were aboard the cruisers Hai Chi and Hai Shen at the time of their runaway will return here to-morrow from Hong Kong.
There are about 25 of them who are to be welcomed back by their parents.
The cadeta were scared to death when the shore batteries at Bocca Tigris fired at the escaping-cruis- ers on the right of June 17. Boc- ca Tigris is known", as Tiger's Door in Chinese, and in the minds through of young cadets to pass the Tiger's Door is just as danger- ous as to go through Tiger's teeth. The future admirals received a shock when the two cruisers put to sea last Saturday, for that was the first time they saw the wide blue ocean. No sooner had the than two ships been under way gun fire from the Narking cruis- er Nlag Hal Was heard. The amazed cadets were alarmed, but their worst fears were allayed when the two runaway cruisers turned back to Hong Kong.
After their trying, ordeal the cadets considered themselves for- tunate in seeing "active service." This is a rare experience for Chin- ese naval officers or cadets.
Most of the students express Intention of returning to Wham- poa. Naval Academy. One or two to
