LITTLE DETAILS THAT COUNT
Art Of Perfect Dressing
We seem to be making a cult of detail this summer. The efforts of the best-known designers make for a complete and prefectly finished appearance. Without at- to detail, there is no tention good dressing.
A model may be charming in Itself, but there must. also, be the correct hat, bag. shoes, hosiery, scari, gloves, or any other new. accessory.
Very attractive is the monogram ar intial. It is not new, but is one of those fads of fashion that can
be presented in a novel manner. One of my smart young friends wears a small white felt hat. with
a bow of pale peige petersham and two striking initials worked in brown kid. There is a handbag of being with brown initials,
SHOES
Shoes.. have become sensible as well as chic. The Court shape for morning in glacé is ideal for sum→ mer; it is smartly trimmed with suède to tone. The straight small Cuban heel is general--the height of the heel is a matter de- cided by the occasion for which the shoes are required. For even- ings and fêtes the heel is very high but it no longer runs under the foot, These new heels are safer and more com torable than the older Louis styles. These are always some women who like the bar-shoe; for straps can be very comfortable.
The new Court shoes are now so well fitted, however, that they are safe to wear as well as smart. Bandal styles in mixed fabrica
· become more and more popular. Navy, black, and brown suede are trimmed with kid. White and brown alliances strike an unusual note.
Much stitching is used to achieve a contrast in colours. In all ways, shoes are very decora tive. A practical summer, Vogue

ä
For the evening gold and silver kid are much in request; also sandals.
Both shoes and gloves this sea- son are more decorative for day wear than evening. Evening shoes of crepe and long gloves of suède look their best when very simply fashioned. Daytime gloves of kid show patent trimmings. All-black, all-white and colour- ed points in white and beige are smart. Gloves must be perfect if- of bizarre order-otherwise. It is desirable to keep to the simple straightforward styles.
SUMMER STORAGE
Many winter garments will shortly be stored away for the summer months, and those who dislike storing clothes with moth- balls will find the following me- thod adequate in itself Pack the articles in stout cardboard boxes. which should be undamaged be tween thick layers of newspapers. Then buy a ron of adhesive, plas ter from the chemist and seal the ida tightly. Garments stored in this way will not be attacked by mothe,

The new straws in por- cupine and pineapple are the last word in style. SUMMER STAINS
Grass stains on clothing should - be removed as soon as possible. Rub them thoroughly; with pet- rol hang in the sunshine for as long as possible, then wash in warm, soapy water. Tar and grease can be removed from light materals with eucalyptus oll, but it may have to be applied two er three times before the stain can be eradicated. If the excaly- ptus is not effective, butter, fol- lowed by petrol, should be tried. Fresh fuit stains, ahould be rin- sed in water, then sporged with anured peroxide of hydrogen, which should then be thoroughly washed out again. Or glycerine can be applied instead. If stains made by stewed fruit have not yet, dried they should immediately be saturated with powdered Starch, which will absorb most.
not all of them If they do... not disappear, try soaking them' in cold water for some time, then stretch the garment over a basin and pour boiling water through it. Cream stains should first be soak- ed in cold water, then washed in the ordinary way Baily stained tennis socks should be soaked in warm water and bicarbonate of soda, before soaking them apply a slice of lemon, dipped in salt, to the stains,

LONDON,
In "London the caped suit is very favoured, and pastel colours" in "duty" pink and forget-me- not blue, as well as plain navy, with spotted or check or printed silk frocks, are having a good vogue in the shops, although the Arctic spell of weather has held back the pastel brigade from being in as full evidence as yet.
For evening, the fur capes are ilked by smart women, and for Ascot the short taffetag or water- ed silk coat, sac or Atting, will: give length to the feminine figure and alter the silhouette yet again. As the weather gets kinder, floral patterned silk and all sorts of thin materials will blossom out: A "best seller" at one. West End shop is a tailored suit in spotted silk, obtainable in all colours the three-quarter - length.cape washing sitk is to be a newcomer among fashions this season-and it will be seen matching washing silk dresses,
Which reminds me that. wash- ing silk dresses in gay stripes made in men's pyjama zliks are a specially of a famous sports- wear house, who are also sponsor- . ing "blistered" taffetas tailored blazers, to wear over silk dresses for the tennis season or for cruis- ing.

Daytime clothes for spring, stay true to the slim silhouette. When the weather gets warmer, Paris wil sec any number of trim little suits in starched cotton. "Baby" blue is a colour which recurs again y and again for cotton and also for jersey fabrics, which are going to enjoy another season of popula- rity.
Tailored run-about dresses for mornings are already in the shops 'in' dull surface crêpes. They are severely plain, relying on piqué trimmings for relief.
Most of them are in pastel colours, and there is also a great deal of chalk white. Grey and sea green is a refreshing daytime colour scheme.
Lace coats are bringing fresh style, interest to evening frocks. They are unlined, and sometimes ́offer striking, colour contrast to gowns, but more often match them.
Starched lace is particularly fashionable, Coats made from it fall into two classes. One is the slender, fitted type of coat with a tailored appearance; the other is à much more romantic looking affair, with a full flared back and elaborate sleeves.
I saw a lovely coat in white starched Duchess lace the other evening, worn over a very simple frock in white satin.
New summer colours at this house, for the season's fashions (and bearing Ascot largely Inipped-in" waistline and the
mind), are black and white, brown and yellow, and dark brown and violet blue.
PARIS.
Long-gioves are being worn here in the evenings by the youn- ger generation, a fashion which remains rather neglected by the older women...
There are also a number flowered headdresses to be seen, and the young idea is to have long gloves and nowered wreath or pory for the hair to match a waistband or some other detall on
the gown.
More flowers are being used here on evening gowns than for many seasons past. There is also a big revival in the wide-skirted. type of evening frock which lends
Itarif so well to floral posies in the corsage or at the base of the neckline.
Another notion is to outline the décolletage with tiny dat flowers in piqué or muslin, or some other simple. fabric as a contrast to tulle, taffeta or organdi.
White is immensely important for evening, especially in sheer fabrics.
A lovely white organdi gown has a narrow silk stripe running through It. The y-shaped neck, line is trimmed with tiny white piqué flowers, and a tiny pair of earrings fashioned from similar material strike a charmingly un- usual and decorative note, sourc

Another strikingly beautiful coat was in highly starched scarlet lace. Here the full swing back was used, and picturesque sleeves with huge puffs, developing below the elbows, with the faires, drawn Into narrow wristbands. A high Medici collar reached half way up back of the head. The cost was worn over a gown in the įpalest maize yellow chiffon,

Little boleros also have a place in the scheme of lace for evening. They look rather gay and amusing with tafetes frocks in dark dark colours.
