Hong Kong came in for its share of the Birthday Honours, no less than five of our residents Äguring the honour list which was received through Beuter yesterday morning....

It was a great source of satisfaction that His Majesty the King saw it to bestow a kalghthood on our popular Chief Justice who now becomes Sir Atholl MacGregor. He was the recipent of many messages of congratulations throughout the whole of yex- terday and it is generally felt that no more worthy recognition could have come our way.

The Hon. Mr. S. W. Two received the CBE, while the two recipents of the Q.B.E. were the Hon. Mr. J. P. Braga and Mr. J. W. ranks. For his long and loyal service at the Treasury. Mr. A, M. de Sousa was awarded the Imperial Service Order.

The Hon. Mr. J. P. Braga, who has been honoured with the O.BE decoration, is one of the Colony's best-known and most popular pub- le men. He has been a member of the Legislative Council since 1929. when, on the reconstitution of that body. he was paid the compliment of being the first member of the Fortuguese community to be ap- pointed a member.

Fredric Cyril Goodman, aged 26 unemployed, living at 7 Chul Loong Street, was brought before Mr. Schofield at the Central Magistracy. yesterday morning, charged with obtaining various sums of money totalling $50 from Yeung Kwai-po. of 20 Peel Street, between January 12 and 15, by falsely pre- tending that he was employed by the Chinese Customs.

Goodman pleaded guilty. Det-Sergt. Fitches said he was instructed to ask for 24 hours' remand in prison.
