LAWN BOWLS NOTES

Review Of Last Week's Matches

(BY "FR").

The Lawn Bowls League contests in both divisions are still being fought out neck, to neck for the premier positions especially in the Senior League where Craigengower "A" and the Recrelo have both won five games without any set- back.

Craigengower "A" will be having a rest this week and their strong challenger Recreio will be pitted against Kowloon Cricket Club.

Cralgengower in their 33 shots victory over the Indians last week was in no way extended. in fact were it not for the shower and the tricky greens a much more heavier defeat would have been suffered by the Indians. -

FLASH IN THE PAN? The Indians started

off the

season very promisingly by their one shot victory over the Bowing Green. Could this be just a fash in the pan? They have lost, every match since then although they have tried out many new skips.

I would suggest, however, that the polley of shuffling, and re- shuring the team be done away with and Just carry on with the original selections for after all "Rome was not built in a day and to attempt to beat the more 1ormidable teams who have more experience and ability behind

them.

They have still to find a skip for the third rink and all their No. 3 have been tested with but the exception of M. Y. Adal. Why not give him a trial and once and for all the right man may be found?

DAILY DOUBLE PROBLEM

(RACING NOTES BY TATTENHAM)

Chief Interest will centre in the Juling Stakes and the "Dally Double" at the Seventh Extra to-morrow, the last meeting of the Arst half year.

..

On account of the special dollat sweep run on this non-win-. ning "Sub" Race and the fact that no one succeeded in winning the "Double" at the Sixth Extra Race Meeting, the whole pool amounting to $,692 will be carried forward and a good dividend is assured.

Probable starters in the opening event The Beaufort Handicap. One Mlle. are Clear View (Liang- 158 lbs.) Diogenes (P. P. Botelho- 152 lbs.) Flybyright (Frost-163 lbs. Popular Star (Pth-150 lbs.) and Twenty Grand (Black-145 lbs.) plus a 7 ibs, penalty incurred for winning at Macao). I thought Clear View a trife unlucky when beaten by Soldier of Peace as the last meeting and expect to see him ge very close: Twenty Grand ran a great race at Macag last Sunday and with Donald Black, may

• Versus C.S.c.C. This week the Indians are up against the lowly-placed C.S.C.C. team. Would it be possible for the Civil servants to register their first win of the season? I shouldn't see why not. A great asset with the Civil servants by being the home team, and furthermore by their polley of playing new com-" binations every now and then do not in the least help matters with the Indians.

Recreio's Close Cali Although winning by nine shots ägainst Craigengower secund string, Recreio, the strong conten- ders for the premier honours, did not have matters all their way in fact they were given a fright, when at one period the Valley lads had as much of the game as they. One feature of the game was the draw 'forced by C. S. Rucselet's four against their strongest pair and by the way in which C. G. Shiva's skip

record was sent down to second * place.

Their turned the tables, completely on the others by returning the highest wia by a margin of six shots. Alves skipped well on that day and received admirable support from C. Marques.

Another evenly contested game should be seen on the Police green where the guardians of the law Play the Kowloon Dock. On form I fancy" the latter, but playing at home is a great asset and as twis is also a game of fluctuation of chance anything might happen, The latest I hear is that many of

their stalwarts will be unable to get away owing to pressure of work, which makes the victory of the

Police much easier.

The Juniors Bowling Green junior is still two points ahead 01 their nearest rivals, the Recreio. Both should have easy hurdles to surmount this

They will be visiting their heigh-week end especially the leaders bour the Kowloon Cricket Club on

who are pitted against the Yacht Saturday and from the looks of Club, the lowest placed team. Re- things they are destined for an-

creio too, should encounter little other victory unless the Cricket difficulty in overcoming the K.C.C. Club owing to a reshuffling of their

Silkstone is going No, A to Hyde Lay, Philips taking Silkstone place as skip with Fincher as his No. 3. The team is as under:

. Sikstone, Graig, Bebbington. Hyde Lay. Gittins, Goodwin, Tac- ch, Fraser. Brown, Kern, Fin- cher, Phillips..

The K.C.C. on paper have quite a strong team but something is lack ing and unless they pull together "I cannot see them winning very many matches In the mood they are capable of beating any team in the league.

Other Teams Cralgengower "B" although not quite formidable on paper can be relled to put up a good fight and their encounter with the Bowling Green this week ought to provide them with an impetus to draw level at least on points against the mainland Club. They are at pre- sent two points behind and should they win they will in all probability go up one position higher. Bowl- ing Green had quite an easy vic- tory over CBC.C, last week and as they are playing at home, which is a great advantage, they should not in the least be perturbed by their opponents' pertinacity.
