SOCIALISM UNMASKED
For a number of reasons the average Conservative has
not hitherto exerted himself very
pruch in order to master the doctrinaire side of the Socialist creed which embodied, for exam- ple, many features that were deemed repugnant to the sturdy
· Individuallem of the British race while it WES not taken very seriously by the two Governments which owed It ад ostensible allegiance. The situation, to-day, has changed considerably for with the virtual extinction of the Liberal Party, the Socialista have become the sole alternative to & Conservative or National Govern- ment while it may also be said that they are growing bolder as their hope of succession to office draws nearer. ROYAL FAMILY MEETING OF CHAMPIONS
CHEERED
Huge Crowd At The Palace
London, May 9. The appearance of the whole of the Royal Family on the balconies of Buckingham Palace to-night, delighed the huge crowd which had watched the arrival of quests for the State Banquet and had waited in the hope of seeing Their Majesties,
At 10.30 o'clock the King, ac- companied by the Prime Minister, Mr. Ramsay MacDonald, appeared on the balcony. They were follow- ed by the Queen and the Princess Royal. On an adjoining balcony the Prince of Wales, the Duke of
York and Duke of Kent took their
stand.
The crowd surged and cheered deafeningly for a full five minutes. while His Majesty and the Princes waved back and smilled in obvious delight at the tremendous ovation. Earlier, as the guests arrived
for the banquet, the crowd had stood wide-eyed as cars rolled up to the Palace bearing white-gown- ed ladies in magnificent ermine wraps, their diamond tiaras sparkling in the flood-light.
A feature of the packed streets in the West End to-night was the. presence of numbers of fathers and mothers with their familles, hundreds of children, to see the sights. It was a crowd very much in contrast to the boisterous, sing-
ing
and dancing throngs of previous evenings. Many children became separated from their parents, however, and there were frantic searches made. Always
