London, May 1. The House of Commons to-day, by a vote of 157 to 44, agreed to the Budget resolution to withdraw soya beans from the free list.
Sir Philip Cunline-Lister, Secre- tary of State for the Colonies, said the exclusion of this commodity from the free list was proposed in order to give effect to the prin- ciple of imperial preference. He emphasised that every Colony pro- ducing palm kernels, groundnuts or copra had asked for this pre- ference owing to the increasing competition from soya bean pro- Loosducers.
