NEW GALLERY WANTED
For Modern Art®
- (Special Air Mail Service)
London, April 3, Stress is laid on the necessity for a new Gallery of Modern Art and for a new Museum of Anti- quities in Scotland in the 28th re-
the Trustees port," of
of the National Galeries of Scotland..
In former reports it is stated, the trustees stressed the need for Gallery of Modern Art in Scot- land.
A new building. they add, is required which will provide exhibt- tion space for contemporary art and also for work of the past 50 or 100 years or to some agreed date which will form the division between the Scottish National Gallery and the new gallery.
The new building should provide space to allow the development of the Scottish school to be shown, even in minor aspects:
The building at present occupied by the Scottish National Gallery would become a gallery of selected works of the highest merit, of foreign and British schools prior to a certain date.
"The trustees believe that the new gallery for modern art must be in a central position in Edin- burgh, and that it should contain the necessary -administrative offices, workshops, laboratories, accommodation, lecture storage rooms, and educational facilities omitted in the planning of the existing Scottish National Gallery and Scottish National Portrait Gallery buildings.
