LEO FROST CELEBRATES EASTER WITH FIVE WINNERS

Glorious weather coupled with several close finishes and comparatively good dividends contributed in no small measure towards the success of the First Day of the Easter Races, held on Saturday with the result that an enjoyable afternoon was had by the large gathering present.

The results of the races were fairly equally divided, there being two or three minor upsets while several races finished as expected. Mr. Leo Frost, the cham. pion jockey, was again in winning form, riding five winners, a second and a third in ten starts. The biggest dividend of the day was returned by Gold Bullion (Mr. Neugebaeur) which paid $187.20 for a win, while Oak Bay, which was making his first appearance in "A" class for many months, scored a triumphant win in the Shek Pai Handicap in the record time of 1.09.2 'beating the previous best set up by Trentbridge by 1 1/5 seconds.

The Easter Classic the St. George's Plate resulted in a dead' heat between King's Jubilee and Rose-Queen. At the conclusion of the race, Mr. G. S. Arch. butt, President of St. George's Society, presented the Cup to Mr. Eu Tong Seu the owner of Rose-Queen.

OAK BAY SETS A NEW RECORD

CANTON HANDICAP

This the first event on the pro- gramme, was featured by an up- set, Ribble, the favourite being un- placed. A good start saw the six starters off, with King's Bounty taking the lead, followed closely by Macaroni and Hatman. This position remained until the last quarter when Ribble, which was lying last up to this time, raised the hopes of its many backers by a spurt but unfortunately

the pony could not keep up the pace, and finished fourth, Macaroni won this race from Hetman with King's Bounty third

WECHOW"HANDICAP There were 10 starters for this race which was won by the hot favourite, Mistake Bay, with Mr. Frost up. Soldier of Peace was second. two lengths behind. and Foxbridge was third. Fly by Night took the lead from the start which was a poor one, followed closely by Victoria Hall and Gold Coin. It was seen that Mistake Bay was going splendidly, although not in the lead, and on the straight home, this pony came up and flashed past the leaders. Mean- while Boldier of Peace had also. come up to take second place, while there was a keen struggle between Harvest View and Fox- bridge for third place which was eventually won by the latter.

NEW BRIDGE HANDICAP Mount Plates, with Mr. Black up, scored a creditable

triumph in this race in which six starters took part, The winner led all the way, followed by Got That, which, was the favourite and which in ished second. Night Star third,

FATSHAN HANDICAP- The first leg of the Daily Dou- ble The Fatshan Handicap was won by The Tiger, the favourite, with Mr. Frost up. from a feld of 13 starters. Valoroas started prominently, leading for

three- quarter of the distance, but on the straight home it fell off badly and was passed first by The Tiger which was following closely be- hind all this time, and then by Bistre and Morplane, Don, one of The hot favourites was fourth,

ST. GEORGE'S PLATE Only three ponies faced the starter for this race, which result- ed in a dead heat between King's Jubilee (Mr. Frost) and Rose- 'Queen (Mr. P. P. Botelho) The race was an excliing one, the pon- ies following one another closely throughout the race, with King's Jubilee, Rose-Queen and High Honour in order. On the straight

home, High Honour offered a ser- lous challenge at one time, but eventually had to admit defeat for the other two ponies were also racing strongly, for a greater part of the race, the ponies were merely "slow galloping", and as a result, the time was poor.
