German publie has now been 'informed that it possesses 201 air fighting fleet, writes a corres- pondeit in a London daily.
No notification to this effect has ever been made through diplomatic channels to the signatories of the Versailles Treaty, Article 198 of which lays down that "the armed forces of Germany must "not in- clude any military or naval air forces."

Nor, I understand, is any such diplomatic notification contem- plated, or it would be "contrary to the present polley' of not drawing public attention to the military clauses of the peace treaty.

accredited 'Air Attachés of the Great Powers could hardly be left to learn from the newspapers that Germany now admits possession of military and naval 'planes.
So a kind of unofficial notifica- tion was made to the Air Attachés. not by Gen. Goering, the Air Min- ister, but by Cmdre. Wenninger, his Chief of Staff. The British Air Attaché Group Capt F. P. Don, was received first, then the "Italian: and thirdly the French.

With a full week to run to the end of the financial year, Treasury returns issued last nigh; show that' at the end of last week the na- tional revenue was only £5,808,- 863 short of the Chancellor's” es- timate for the year. "
Revenue to date total £700,711,- whole 137, the estimate for the year being £706,520,000. ..
At the corresponding date last year. revenue was £14.653.129 above the full estimate.
The returns now show a current surplus of £1,864,439, ́as against. a surplus of £35,493,407 a year ago; but in the previous year there was a deficit of £9,884,486.
Last week's revenue was £19,352,- 552, compared with £17,378,351 in the corresponding week last year; Expenditure aimoanted to £12,- 655,387, compared with £11,277.- 025.
Income Tax Tield Expenditure is stl £17,072,302 below the revised estimate for the whole year, but it must be borne in mind that the last week of the financial year always calls for heavy outgoings. At the correa- ponding date last year expendi,-|| ture was £26,233,760 below the es- timate.
The most striking feature of the returns is the successful yield from income tax, which, 'at "£224.476.- 000, 13 £4,976,000 above the Budget estimate for the whole year, last
week's collection amounting to £5,990,000,
