On a charge of entering the Colony without a valid passport. Jack Werneroff, à Russian Jew was fined $5 by Mr. Macfadyen at Cen- tral Magistracy yesterday.

According to Detective-Sergeant Russell who prosecuted, defendant arrived from Shanghai on April 1. He went to the Registration Office on Thursday. and produced Shanghai certificate. but had no valid passport. He had booked his passage through to Canton, and! disembarked in Hong Kong.

Defendant pleaded guilty and stated that he had been refused permission to stay in all the places he had visited asked for permission to stay in the Colony for two or three weeks to make some money. as he was absolutely without any means at present.

His Worship refused the 'request, making an order of expulsion.

Detective-Sergt. Russell. stated that he had been instructed to ask for a small fine, and an expulsion order against the defendant.
