POLAND'S ATTITUDE TO

EASTERN PACT

Not Prepared For Flat Rejection

Warsaw. April 2

It is expected that Mr. Esen firstly will give Colonel Beck a full account of the Berlin and Moscow conversations. It is believed In some quarters that Colonel Beck may assure Mr. Eden that the Soviet suspicion that a Polish-German alllance exists with argres- alve anti-Russian intentions is unfounded, Reuter learns that the Polish General Staff is strongly opposed to such an alliance.

It appears that Poland is not prepared for immediate flat re- jection of the Eastern Pact. but feels Poland's bilateral non-aggres- slon pacts with her neighbours aught to be incorporated in any Eastern Locarno plan and it is surrested that Poland would not re- ject the Eastern Paet if the formula is found to be reassuring to" German objections thereto.

The Folish leaders probably feel bound to take some décisive step as the opposition has been strongly urging Poland to clearly elucidate her foreign policy.

London, April 1. On Mr. Eden's return the Euro- opean situation will be subjected to careful study by the British Government in the light of the re- ports submitted by him and the Foreign Secretary, The value of this unique series of visits to for eign countries is fully recognised. The contacts established have served the purpose expected of them, and the views of the various Powers are more clearly under- stood

The exploratory character of the visits has throughout been, em- phasised, and at this moment con- crete results are not expected. Nor Is any carly statement of the Gov- ernment's appreciation or the ad- mittedly anxious position in Europe to be anticipated.

FURTHER SURVEY

The whole field will be further surveyed in the Anglo-French- Italian conference at Stresa and another opportunity for exchanges of views between the statesmen will arise at meeting of the Special League Council at Geneva a few days later.
