ST. PAUL'S GIRLS' COLLEGE
Celebrates 20th Birthday
The 20th Birthday" of St. Paul's Girls College was ättingly celebrated yesterday at, the College Hall, when a large gathering of parents, pupils and friends were present when Lady Southorn, OBE, distributed certificates to the successful candidates.
A concert followed the prize giving in which those present thoroughly enjoyed the fare provided.
A hearty welcome was extened to Mrs. Proctor Riley who had come all the way from America to attend the celebration and who had been for the past several years a great and ardent sup-* porter of the College.
Dr. Woo was also praised in eulogistic terms by Hon. Dr. Kotewall and Lady Southorn,
The whole of one floor of the school was devoted to an exhibition of the scholars' works. and the variety and high standard, of the exhibits testined to the important place which handiwork holds in the school curriculum. Some of the exhibits spoke volumes for the hard work, labour, and skill put in by pupils and teachers alike in at- taining the desired results.
The library contained knitting. needle work and lacework and models in clay, in the next class room were plants grown by the giris and nature study drawings. The kindergarten filled the next room with plasticene models. drawings, woodwork, needle work and two delightful dolls houses, one made entirely of match boxes. In the history and Geography room was a fascinating array of maps and charts, both in English and Chinese. ture records, one of maximum and one minimum temperatures and one of the dally averages kept throughout the year by the two scalor classes, were of particular interest.

I must not forget the generous help rendered to us by our friends In the U.S.A. and Canada, who have given us in all about $150,000. In addition to these donations, a very good friend of the College, Mrs. Eleanor Proctor Rifty has. since 1931, been donating' to the College annually the sum of $200.00.) U.S. currency. She has just given to the College $100.00 G. as a pre- sent for its 20th birthday. Sir,-As Hills Excellency's period of office as Governor of Hong Kong nears its and increasingly frequent expressions of regret are being heard on all sides at his approaching departure."
Nowhere have these been voiced more fully and warmly than, at the annual meeting of the Society for the Protection of Children of whitch Sir William and Lady Peel are patrons,
Subsequent to the annual meet- ing the committee. of the Society resolved to commemorate Sir Wil- Ham Peel's administration, srid more especially his concern for the children of our less fortunate fellow citizens by opening a fund in aid of the Society's Ariances.
His Excellency has graciously allowed his name to be associated with the fund which is to be known as the "Sir William Peel Fund for the Protection of Children."
The object of this Fund is to provide an opportunity for those who feel sympathy with suffering childhood to commemorate Sir William Peel's governorship in a with his well-known sympathies permanent manner in accordance
heartfelt and the most sincere of and as eloquently as the most farewell addresses.
Society for the Protection
For its present activities the of Children has to find each month about 82.000 and each year its in-
penditure, by more come has fallen short of the ex-
than
this amount.
+
Last year, by means of dora- tions (and these necessarily vary each year) and Government Grant of "$5,000, the income was €20,840.
2
It is hoped that the response to the appeal for the Sir William Peel" Fund will realise such sam that the annual interest will more than make up for the an nual deficit, for it is not likely that in present circumstances we shall have to spend less than we do now.
