EMPIRE AIR
SERVICE
Cheaper Rate In Sight
London, March 9.
A message from the "Times "* correspondent at Canberra states that the Federal Cabinet has ap- proved the tentative agreement on the proposed Empire air service which was reathed at. Sydney last month between representatives of the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand.
It is understood that the con- ference accepted in principle the British scheme for the carriage, after 1937, of all first-class Empire rials at a cheap flat rate which would be subject to amendment, the proposal to use flying boats on the Singapore-Sydney stretch, and the admission of the right of the Australian post office to impose a Burcharge if necessary!
When the local police attempted to make the demonstrators move. on, they were attacked by the Communists with fists and sticks whereupon a general scuffle en- sued, many on both sides being more or less seriously injured. Four demonstrators were arrested, Excitement in Coursan. ran so high that police reinforcements had to be brought from Carcar-
