Gossip From The

Camps

(From a Correspondent)

London, Feb. 5. Next to the James hat-trick the best Soccer story of the week- end concerns the amateur, A. H. Fabian, whom George Jobey took from Arsenal's doorstep two sea- sons ago to make a Cup star of him at Derby.

League players are not allowed. to fly to matches, but the ban, of course, does not apply to the amateur game. Fabian, who is a schoolmaster, was to fly to Frome for an important Amateur Cup-tie.

He got away from Heston Air- port about 1.30 and was over the playing field at Frome about 220. The pilot could not find a land- ing-place and back home went Mr. Fabian.

His team, the Casuals, played a men short for half the game. but won.

Arsenal's New Star

"The news of the James hat-trick penetrated even before the League results into the board-zoom o Aston Villa; and I have no doubt was Allison, who Mr. George watching the Hearts beat. Ayr United, knew all about it before he left Scotland..

It would not increase his wan- Ing interest in Walker, and I do not think we shall hear much more about this transaction.

It may be anticipated that Da-" vidson, the Arsenal's latest trans- fer adventure, will make an early appearance in the Highbury team. -for the Bástin move to inside right was only practical propost- tion it Beasley could reproduce his form against the Albion on the left wing.

Ireland's Championship Bid Interest switches this week to the almost forgotten internation- al programme, and, there are all the signs that the Irish match on the Everton ground on Wednes- day will be just as severe a test for England as the Scottish game "in April.

Ireland have been able to choose their best team since the war, and, indidentally, they have a reason- able chance of winning the cham- plonship.

Britton, England's right half. has been nursing an injury over the week-end, but I am assured that he will be fit to play.

There is, however, a doubt in the case of Westwood, who was hurt in the closing stages of the Bradford City match. Balton v.

The inside-left badly bruised an Instep, and I learned last night that he is very doubtful for the International: If Westwood has towery off the selectors may revive the Bastin-Brook wing.

FORECASTS

"Quarter Finals”. To Be Decided

The last eight clubs left in the Cup are meeting on Saturday to decide the right of entry into the semi-finals. The League loaders are visiting Wednesday a draw is expected. Everton are at home to Bolton and should just manage to go a step further; so should West Brom who receive Preston, and Birmingham should have no difficulty at Burnley.

In the First Division all the home teams should retain ini! points. The advantage of playing at home in the Second and Third Division will be reflected in the majority of "home" vic- tories this week-end.

"Left Out's" selections together with the distances visiting teams have to travel and past records where available:-

S, China Win In

Both Division

In a re-arranged Senior Shield match, the South China "B" de feated the Royal Artillery by 3 goals to 1 after being 1 goal down at the interval at Sookunpoo yesterday.

The match was on the whole, fast, but was scrappy.

A feature of the game was the fire goal-keeping by the custo- dians of both teams Durham, for the Artillery was very safe and brilliant and his positioning saved his side from heavier defeat.

Wong Wah-kal brought of many fine "saves" for the Chinese, but he was very seldom tested, for the gunners forwards could not find their shooting boots, but whenever called upon to clear he did not make a blunder.
