GATWICK-PARIS IN AN HOUR

Hourly Service By Dutch Company

(Special Air Mall Servics)

London, Jan. 29.

The ärst step towards the establishment of an express Lon- "don-Paris air service, running every hour on the hour, is, to be taken at Gatwick airport.

for

One of the 200 mp.h. Douglas air liners, of the type that finish- ed second in the England- Australia speed race and won the handicap prize. Is being sent over by the Fokker companý, which holds the European «Ücence this type of machine..

Chevaller K. D. Parmentier, joint pilot of the successful Douglas in the air race, will be the pilot. He will make demonstra- tion flights and test the" - sult- ability of the aerodrome for the service. The controlling authority of this aerodrome is Airports, Ltd., which has planned the new ser- vice and is making special- ́ar- rangements for it at Gatwick.

The distance between Gatwick and Le Bourget is 193 miles, and the Douglas would be able to do this in still air in one hour,

Special arrangements would en- able the time taken by the tar- minal journeys to be reduced to a minimum and. It is expected that, allowing for " wind. a schedule service could be run taking 2 hours 20 minutes from the centre of London to the centre of Paris, This represents a saving of about

1 hour 25 minutes over existing air services.

Loading Building

The high speed of the proposed service is regarded as secondary to its frequency. It is believed that the use of relatively small, fast aeroplanes, plying at frequent intervals, would prove well suited" to the needs of large sections of the travelling public.

Another objective which the organisers have set themselves, is that of enabling passengers to be under cover from the moment they leave central London to the moment they arrive in Paris.

PEACE TIME NAVAL COLLISIONS

London, Jan, 29. Until now, no collision between large ships of the Navy has taken place since the war, and fortunate ly the misadventure in which the Hood and Renowo, two of our greatest fighting ships; baze just been involved does not appear to have been serious.o

During the war, however, then large numbers of big ships had to manoeuvie together, with all lights maaked at high speed and often
