COMBINED CHINESE

SURPRISED

Shanghai's Improved

Display

After their poor showing on Monday, the Shanghai team gave the Hong Kong combined Chinese a shock by their display. Against an all round improved form the Combined Chinese had to fight every inch to stave off defeat' although at one time. they were leading by two goals to all.

to be desired, and he was also in- clined to be jumpy when under pressure.

Wong Wing was, as cool as a cucumber. He took charge of his post like a real veteran and his positioning and anticipation saved many a certain goal.

Shanghai's backs started very shakily, Their clearances were weak and their covering and un- derstanding poor, Shute, however, improved in the second half and then he had a slight measure of success but not in the first half when the Hong Kong forwards were literally making rings round the backs.

Li Tin Sang and Flie were as "safe

as the Bank of England." Rarely did this pair put a foot wrong to the ball. They had each other covered up in excellent style and with Gosano, and Parker in front of them their work was cut to a minimum.

The Defence

Flanked by H. K. Chen, on the right and Madar on the left, Shute, playing at centre half, combined well with them and their efforts nullified the swift movements of the Chinese.
