As John Forrester, a theatrical producing genius whose greatest ambition is to perpetuate his name in the theatre, through his son Walter Connolly is faced with the question of saving his own life in a shipwreck or giving big place in a lifeboat to another. Previously he encountered a com munist who has called hm 'D capitalist pig and challenged him with the question: "Did you evet make a sacrifice for a human being?" His imagination fred by this question, he battles, alongside of officers of the ship to stop terior-stricken men from `trạm- pling woinen" and children in their frenzied efforts to get to a lifeboat. As the ship is aobut to sink, Forrester thinks of his wife and adored son. Panic selžeš him and seeing a woman's coat, he puts t around him and takes his place in a lifeboat, disguised as a
woman.
