QUESTIONS AT THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL
Answering questions put by the Hon. Mr. R. HL Kotewall at" the Legislative Council yesterday, the Hon. the Colonial Secret- Bry" (Sir Thomas Southor), said that Government had no in- formation regarding the proposed air service to Canton Ho stated in reply to another question that negotiations were pro- ceeding with regard to the linking of Hong Kong with the great air routes of the world, but that Government was not: In a position to make a statement.
A number of other questions were asked, the answers to which will be found below.

Frederick Barretto," who had previously pleaded guilty to three counts of kidnapping Luigi Ribeiro the 9 year old son of Mr. and Mrs, L. G. Ribeiro of 7 Hanoi Road on December 10 and - Louis Antonio da Rocha who pleaded not guilty to two counts of afding and aba'ting were again before Mr. E. W Hamilton yesterday at the Kowloon Magistracy
Mr. J. A. Fraser the Assistant Attorney General Who Fro- secuted cross examined Rocha for the greater part of the after noon Rocha's evidence was unshaken in respect to the part, which he played as being purely actuated by pity. Rocha was in the box when the case resumed yesterday and Mr. Fraser proceeded to cross examine

Mr. Fraser: Your story is that Barretto kidnapped the boy and that you only took a minor-part
Rocha: Yes,
Fraser: In that regard whose idea was it that Ribeiro should give some money, yours or Barretto's?
Rocha: Barretto's idea.
To a question put to him witness said that Barretto "asked him to ask for the money on his behalf.
Mr. Fraser: In your interest Mr. Rocha try and answer my question and not to try and evade. Who was to ask for this money?
Rocha: I was.
Asked why Barretto wanted to leave the Colony witness replied he did not know.

The defendant had not only made himself an accessory to the offence by going to get the money but had also asked the father to compound a felony.

Continuing Mr. Lo said that some of the questions put to his client were unfair and surprised him.
