Good Bouts Seen On Appointments And
Saturday
The first boxing tournament of the season was held at the Lee Theatre on Saturday night when Stoker Pyrall, H.M.S. Suffolk best Stoker Dee, HMS. Phoenix on points over £fteen rounds for the light-weight championship of the Colony. For a championship event the fight was disappointing and although Pyrall was the winner by a comfortable margin, he did not impress in that he seemed content to use only a straight left. his right being held back most of the time.
The second main item of the evening was a bantam weight contest (10 rounds) between Cpl Marsden, H.MS. Tamar and Bat- tling Chan, the Straits Chinese. The decision. a draw. received a mixed reception for although Marsden was holding a slight lead until the fourth round. the Chinese more than made up for it in the next six rounds and in the eighth round had his man down three times.
..
The Main Event
Stoker Pyrall (133 lbs.) bad three pounds advantage in weight over his opponent who tipped the scale at 130 lbs. Pyrall appeared to be the better man right from the start and although there was -not-much action in the early rounds, he was doing what little Aghting there was and continual- ly had his man on the ropes. In fairness to Dea. it must be said that he fought back gamely

against a better man and at times he connected some pretty rights to the face."
In-fighting featured the con- test and there
too much clinching so that little or 10 damage Was done by either Aghter. Fyrall used a rather stir left to the face and scored several points in this
but he lacked a punch heavy enough to put his man down for the count.
manner
Pyrall had things pretty much his own way and in the seventh and eighth rounds he had Dee in every corner of the ring. Dee was, however, fighting gamely and al though he had to be purely on the defensive in these two rounds, he forced the pace in the next stanza and at this point both men were mixing it freely. This.proved to be Dee's final effort for Pyrali had things his own way again from this point onwards and scored with some hefty punches to the head and body..
The end came with both men still Aghung hard but Pyrall had piled on too many points and the decision in his favour was very popular. Mr. H G, Sheldon re- fereed the night.
