Collections For The Half-Season
Jean Patou is showing a number of dresses discreetly designed to meet the present way of living: trim little black d'esses for the afternoon and black dresses for the 'evening. made with" skirts, which do not touch the ground and necklines which are low at the back and are cut high to the base of the throat in front. -- For afternoon dresses Patou uses cluice a satin finish, plain crepe with satin and moire: for the evening. katin, celophane, lace, crinkled crepes, and moire, With black he puts colour, as on a black taça dress worn over, a low budice of pale green satin ribbon, or on a simple black sfternoon dresa, when he puts long tight cuffs of bright plaid to the sleeves, · or “ when, with skirts and jackets, he puts a soft white chiffon blouse
trimmed with silver or one in orange chiffon spotted with satin.
The skirts of all the afternoon and morning dresses are slim in line and Very well tailored, whether slit at the hem, pleated in front, or made with panels. One dress is in crepe satin used on the dull side. In front from ueck to hem is hung a broad gott parel used on the shiny side. The high neck is turned back in front with soft white Ingerte. points, and the sleeves, long and tight fitting, have white cuís. Most of the aresses are worn with belts, either of shiny leather or in material like the dress. There are few sashes. Lelong's Creations.
Lucien Lelong has also made u stylish collection for the half- season period. His morning dress- es and ensembles are bright and practical, mace in tweeds and plain woollens with bright addi- tions in jumpers, little Jackets, buttons, and belta. His afternoon dresses are very simple and for
them he uses, a good many crepes and jerseys. For the evening the evening Lelong invariably makes dresses which are formal, how- ever, simple. Skirts for the morn- ing are short and tight, with hidden pleats: or a allt at the` right place in the hem. For the afternoon they are 8 little longer and have some sort of hidden fullness, but always a slim- backline. Long, tight sleeves, are usual; some are tucked all the was up horizontally. When are full sleeves, long or there short, the fullness is drawn to- wards the back to give a cape appearance.
Ornamental bib fronts to the afternoon dresses are made in 'different shapes and materials. Many of them are in soft, white
lingerie; or the linen may be stiff and starched, as when a dress or coat has wide; crisp, white revers. Long pointed collars are turned back on themselves to inake loop. Little black dresses are worn over white waistcoats and are slit down the back and in front, to show the white of the waistcoat. One black dress is cut with a long swallow tail which reaches tu the hem behind Skirts are often worn with short basqued Jacketa.....
