Pigs and Poultry

+

(To the Editor, "Hong Kong Daily Press") Sir-The report of the Cam- mittee on pigs and poultry DAS been before the public for some days but except for some praise from the Press has been ignored.

And this is strange since the pro- posal involves the formation in times of deep depression of a new Government Department.

It is true that the appointment if unsuccessful is to be temporary but the test of success is to be that the statisties of local pro- duction justify it.

It is not unfair to assume that the holder of this lucrative ap- pointment will see that it does succeed in this sense:

Permanence means leave pay, passages and pension; and in all probability in due course a second expert to help the first, and the Government Department will be duly launched.

The Government may I hope do nothing about it, but they did ap- point the Committee and one never knows.

NAZARETH HOUSE

Golden Jubilee Of Unique

Local Institution

On last Saturday, not far from the Ice-Cream Parlour on Fokfulam Road, was celebrated a remarkable Jubilee, the Gol- den Jubilee of Nazareth House. As Nazareth House is un- known to most people in Hong Kong I thought that the best topographical indication would be the Ice-Cream Parlour where the pleasure-questing, motor-car stops. Nazareth is on the up- posite side of the road which leads to Repulse Bay: it is on No future the opposite side to the ideal which lead there.

the ice-partouts historian of Hong Kong will count signs of our culture; but no serious historian ran fail to in- rer over the work of Nazareth.
