Bright View Fancied For St. Leger
(BY "MORNING DEW")
Judging from the overcast conditions prevailing this week. under It looks as if the St. Leger on Saturday will be run conditions far from ideal. This is really bad luck as all the other classic races of 1934 have been held under anything, but favourable conditions. Had the Australlay Derby or the Austra lian Champions at the Annual Race Meeting been run under fair conditions, I think wonderful records would have been set...” up, which would have stood for a long time. Now with the ap- what proach of the St. Lerer, one really would like to see Abie Amazon can do under favourable conditions but should" the" going be slippery, the old record may not even be lowered. How- ever, all this is by the way, and I suppose readers are anxious to know what the critics think of the prospects of the various peales in the big races this Saturday.

A very" prominent racing man told me the other day that if he had to nominate "the winners the three classics, he would select Bright View for the "Griffins" Cavalcade for the "Subs"
Abie Amazon for the "Austra
lians"
I must say that I am inclined to agree with him.
BRIGHT VIEW
Regarding Bright View. this pony is most likely to stand the distance I am a bit uncertain about Electric Star, for although he is a good free mover, a mile and three quarters does not look dike his distance. Then we have Brilliant Star.
I don't know why it is, but something tells me that he will not make much of a show in the St. Leger. Perhaps it is the defeat of Night Star last year in the Australian St. Leger that gives me this feeling of uncer tainty. It will be remembered the Night Star arrived in the Colony about a fortnight before the big and he WLS thoroughly Bounced Brilliant Star, accord- ings to those who know, has not had enough time to get ready for Saturday's tussle and he must be a. rattling good pony if he can win in spite of his late arrival. Soldier of China, Ribble, and probably Macaroni, will not be a big thorn in the side of Bright View, but not so the others...
race,
KING'S WARDEN
I have a very great regard for King's Warden, and, after Bright View I like his chance best. This pony is sure to put up a great show and in the able hands of Johnny Heard, will win, if Bright View falls. Incidentally, H. C. Pth is riding Bright View, Gladiator will probably go the distance very well and if the pace is not too fast. he stands a fine chance. Soldier
of Britain is entered, but how he will race is a problem; as he was so ingloriously defeated. In the Derby that one wonders if he can" stay a mile and three quarters. the Hydroplane has entered for St. Leger after all His connec- tions. I am informed, are not a
bit hopeful about his chances
THE SUBS' ST. LEGËR
If we apply the process of elimination here, the Subs' St. Leger will boil down to four pon- les. These are Classic Hall, Tiny Star, Cavalcade and Chow Fan. The last-named is a good stayer, and I shouldn't be surprised to see him placed. Classic Hall has been specially nurse for this race, but he does not go well over "a. long distance, and although he might win, It will have to be a very slow race if he does. Tiny Star won some good sub races
earlier in season and there is no
reason why he should not win or Saturday. Cavalcade is very fit, and for this reason slone he should give Tiny Star a good race." Of the four that have been selected here Cavalcade and Tiny Star, in "that order are the most likely to
win

FREEMANTLE ST. LEGER
vicinity of $5.10 and therefore the pay-out on High Finance (assum- ing the pony finishes second) wil not be very big. The risk is not worth it.
CAN THE TIGER DO IT?
For the last race on the card (the novices event), The Tiger. with 158 pounds would have been my very first pick had not the event been a novice race where so many other factors have to be considered. Racing Boy (F. F. LI up) is very fit and, to my mind. should extend the Tiger, especially since Li appears to be one of the best novices at the moment. Way- ¡ward Stag and What A Chance are also good things, here, and I have heard it rumoured that Fiy- Ing Tourist is the big outsider for the last race, 60 keep that in mind.."
FIRST RACE
There are five Australian ponies in the opening race which Will perhaps resolve itself into a good race Dinty does not prove toc good for the test. The distance is slightly against him, but not enough to cause his defeat. is very difficult to pick between Empire Day and Polar Star. «by on past running I favour the föriner. Vriday is lightly weight- ed, but shouldn't worry the fav- ourites, as he does not appear to be quite ready.
FIVE FURLONG EVENTS
In the "B" Class Ave furlongs race, what is there to touch King's Bounty? Oak Bay is a speedy customer, but I can hardly ses him wresting the lead from the Dynasty candidate and keeping it. Brechin, if he gets well away is dangerous as he can snitt over a short distance, but I don't think he can give six pounds and a lick- ing to King's Bounty. In the "D" Class Ave. furlongs we shall see whether or not Boxing Eve cau hold his own over a short race, us he has definitely proved that he cannot do so over a long, one. There will be plenty of opposition from Stickypast and Festival Eve, all of whom are good starters.
There is a quiet confidence in the camps of Racing Heart that this pony will turn the tables on i Able Amazon, but personally. I { DELIGHTFUL CHANCE, can't see how it can be done, be- cause whether the race is a fast What is there in the Fanling one or whether it is slow, Able Handicap to stop Delightful Amazon will be there at the kill. Chance from winning again? From Mutiny Bay, Bag Tor and High the comfortable manner of his last Finance are the other entries here, victory I should think he will win and had the entries been any big again despite the slightly heavier ger, it might be of some value to weight. Chesterfield and Bold readers to know that High Fin-Commander may give, him a” good ance is a good thing for a place. run, but the pony I should really But with so few entries, place watch bere will be- Sarabande as betting will be not much use, for he has been moving so well lately when Able Amazon comes in the that he will be a good match dividend will be somewhere in the against Delightful Chance.
