MANCHUKUO OII. PROBLEM

Britain Awaiting Reply

London Nov. 7.

The Foreign Secretary, Sir John Simon, was asked in the House of Commons to-day if he could state whether the Japanese Government still-stood by the principle of the "Open Door" as applied to Man- churia and whether in view of the creation of an oil monopoly in Manchuria was an infringement of that principle.

Replying, Sir John Simon sald that the United Kingdom had communicated its views on the proposal for a monopoly to the au- thorities in Manchuria and to the Japanese Government He had not yet received replies to this communication and would prefer in the meantime not to pronounce conclusions on the matter. -

NO LEFT WING TENDENCIES

Victory Of The Democrats

New York, Nov. 7. Observers do not consider that the smashing victories of the De- mocratic Party will result in any left wing tendency on the part of the Government. They expect that President Roosevelt will con- tinue on "the middle road.”

Some even incline to the belief that the majorities of Democrats in both houses are likely to be- come cumbersome rather than helpful."

Wall Street seems unmoved by the result of the election. It was as Wall Street expected it would be. But the silent acceptance of the situation is interpreted by some to mean that no radical tendencies are anticipated on the part of the Government.
