Storming Finishes To League Games

The Football Association" wIL| tell us soon whether or not the Italians are coming to Highbury on November 14. It is hoped that they release something more in- formative on this subject than the customary "skeleton" bulletin.

This is the match for which the Soccer world is waiting. England. .to oblige Italy, who are the European champions, played in Rome in May, 1833, with all the weather conditions against them and with their players past their freshest after a hard season of League and Cup strife.

Italy's case for a later date is that with their prestige and their title to consider they need more time to do themselves justice in England. They forget that the English season is only a few weeks old.

My information is that the Italians will protest, but will ác- cept the date offered. If they decline it will be a long time be- fore the F.A. will be in the mood elther to send team to Rome' cplay Italy in this country.

LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL AT CHELSEA

A fortnight before the Italians

are due here there is a League International against the Scots to be played at Chelsen-a Wednes- -day match which will draw a big

1. -crowd.

J

This is Scotland's big chance to find how they stand in regard to home talent. No doubt the Eng- lish selectors will stand by the eleven that beat Wales but they should not be in too much hurry to conclude that the team is beyond Improvemente

There will be keen disappoint- nent in London If Bastin is not In the side, and the opportunity should be taken to try out an other centre-half in Barker's place

It is agreed that England have found a team, but it is possible to make the side evea more efficient in three positions-out- side-left inside-rignt and centre- half.

NEWCASTLE IN THEIR STRIDE

Newcastle United, under Wen- ver's captaincy, are in their stride at last, and with only Bolton 6. playing consistently it is not too early to suggest that the Second Division promotion fight may de- velop into a two-club race in the becond half of the season,

If the Italian came to town and confidently felt they will we must not only win but win by a substantial goals' margin. ARSENAL NOT AT THEIR BEST The League's Big Three are marking time. Both Manchester City and Arsenal

one

The City were actually losing

3-1 to Blackburn "on their own gupund at one point, and only drew level by means of a penalty and last-second goal of the fortuitous variety.

Arsenal were saved at Stoke by a hotly debated goal eight miriutes from the end, and so these two will meet at Highbury next Satur- day for the big test, with chasten- ed "views about their 'supremacy.

own

Manchester City will, however.. te heartened by the knowledge. that they have a definite half- back advantage over their rivals

One has to watch Arsenal play- ing away from home to realise that there is something not quite right with the team.

In the Third Division the fall of Chester at home and the failure of Charlton to beat Crystal

at the Valley mean leadership changes.

Tranmere Rovers, the last of the unbeaten clubs, have surrendered, and Bristol Rovers, the only club without a win, have at last broken

the ice.

TRAINING GALLOPS

Preparing For Saturday's Meeting

(BY: MORNING DEW")

No very fast times were recorded on the course yesterday al-. though some of the gallops were of more than ordinary Interest.

One of the outstanding features of the morning's work was a mile by King's Warden who took-2.10 for the fourher, covering the fast half mille in 101. This pony will be a big factor in 'the Grifin's Cup on Saturday, and will probably solve the problem of where the" St. Leger will be going. The "Dynasty " stable, in fact, has 's very strong claim for the St Leger as their other candidate, King's Fancy, is also at the top of his form. He covered six furlong's in convincing styla yesterday...

Brechin and Mayflower, who are due to meet over a middle distance"event öri Saturday, moved impressively. Others that went well wete Tiny Star, Flying Tourist, Chesterfield, Ribble, Racing Boy and Gladiator.
