ALL THE FUN OF

THE FAIR

At Tait's Carnival

Tait's Manila Carnival Bhows opened on the vacant ground op- posite the Peninsula Hotel last night to a fanfare of music and whirl of mechanical devices, bring- ing with them all the thrills and fun of a modern travelling Fair.

Old Man Depression was banish- ed in moments of pleasure snatch- ed on the back of a rocking horse, "Dodgem" cars, or in the less ad venturous interior of a side show. A new riding device brought this year is called "Leaping Lena" and consists of twelve small motor cars which go round in a circle, cars in so doing, do their best to leap. "Dodgem" and the Big Wheel seem to be as popular as ever, crowds waiting at times to ride hem. A new ride, the Slide, was bullt in Kowloon last year. The younger people seemed to be getting a great deal of fun out of it.

There are, many side shows on the Fair ground. The motor drome is one of the best with two very daring riders who race each other round and round the drome, one on a motor-cycle, the other in n amall motor car.

"Peejay's" Dive Amusements which are billed "spectacular," "stupendous," etc. always put one of, but after see- Ing Peelay Riggens high-diving act the writer altered his opinion; for these words are not strong en- ough to do justice to this item.
