some.
The first day's racing of the Eighth Extra Meeting at Happy Valley was what spoiled by intermittent rain which fell during the afternoon, as a result of which the new-12 pari-mutuel was not given a fair trial. The turnover was slightly smaller than at the previous meeting, but one result was that dividends, in spite of the fact that favourites turned up again and again, were on the generous side.
Soldier of Germany ant Valorous won their respective races to pay $11.60 for u $2 bet on the "Daily Double."
Racing Heart won the Australian race from Just That. Bronze Era disappointed here, fading out after leading for half a mile.
The rain did not help ground conditions which were not conducive to fast times.
BRECHIN WINS FROM MACARONI
Brechin won the first race fairly, ward Stag was second while What comfortably thanks to a bit of cleyer handing by P. P. Botelho who was as much responsible for the success as the polly.
'King's Bounty set the pace, ac- companied by Gladiator and the! two showed the way followed by High Speed, MayBower, Macaroni and Bright View.

A Chance after a grueling tussle with Flying Tourist shared the third place with him.
RACING HEART
Bronze Era and Nell, Gwyn set a very fast pace in the "A" class race for Australians, but both tired rapidly and were out of the pic- ture before the home straight was
reached.

mount responded much better than Soares' in the final portion of the i straight and he won by half a Jength.
Saucy Face, after staying well behind the leaders most of the way, came along in the straight to offer a big challenge to Reding Heart and Just That. The pony missed second place by neck,

King's Parade was a good fourth coming along with a belated rush.
AUSTRALIAN BOY
The return match between Aus- trálian Boy and The Goose proved somewhat one-sided. St. Joan who had finished third on the last oc- casion these ponies met, set a ter- r.fic pace on Saturday but could

Gunners Outclassed"In
Fast Game Playing at Caroline Hill, the Artillery were completely outčiais- ed' by South China "B" in their first divisioni · Leagte - ZRIA Saturday, when the latter left the feld the winners by 5 goals to 1.
The Chinese were much toe good and on Saturday's exhibition give a fair indication that they will finish at the top of the League table with their "A" team.
The Gunners' passing was weak and very often failed to reach ther objective, while the under- standing was nothing like that when they defeated: Kowloon Jast week on the Club ground.

cope with the situations which arose.
That the Chinese were going to win was fairly apparent they ran through from the opening whistle, and Lai Shul-wing found the net after dribbling round both Wroe and Hopkins in a space of less than two feet, to send in a ter- rific drive to score.
Wroe played an inspired game, 0 though his partner at left-back, Young 0 Hopkins was very weak.
CAPSTAN
Sul-yick scored South China's sec- and goal. Running up the wing he left the defence standing walk the ball into the net..
Wroe's Great Save
Lee Shek-yau almost scored Just before half time when he sent in a pile-driver from about 12 yards, Wroe only Just getting his head to t and defecting it for a corner. (Continued on Page 113
