ST. IVES WINS SUBS CLASSIC
(BY "MORNING DEW")
Favourites had an extremely lean time at Happy Valley on Saturday when the racing for the second half of the season was resumed.
The feature of the meeting was the success of the ponies from the "Hem" stable, who secured three wins during the after; - noon, the winners being Lemberg. Macaroni and Gladiator. Mr. R. H. Charles rode two of these ponies to victory.
The principle race of the day provided a victory for St. Ives, who accounted for Cavalcade and Copper Idol,
The last race provided a thruĤng finish, The Goose and Aus- tralian Boy dead-heating for first place, with St. Joan a head behind.
The biggest, dividend of the day was returned by Bistre who finished second to Lemberg in the Island Bay Handicap. Those who backed him received $72.40 each. The pony was subsequent- ly disqualified for carrying four pounds less than the weight he should have done.
The "Dally Double" paid 3237.58, the winning combination being Racing Pluck and Lemberg.
