MURDER IN THE PRIVATE CAR

Like "42nd Street" and "Foot-Bay. light Parade." this picture is main- ly composed of brilliant musical numbers but it surpasses its prede- cessors "not 'only hírlik uniqueness and novelty, but in the beauty and grandeur of its spectacle and Its throbbing drama of life.
The musical numbers are 97- ranged on a grand scale and spec- tacluar especially "Goin' to Hea- ven on a Mule" and "Why Do I. dream those dreams."
Behind this extravaganza, is a story of a dancer (Dolores del Rio) who is madly in love with her however, is tired of her and is partner (Ricardo Cortez). He,
playing around with Liane Renaud (Kay Francis), the wife of a pro- minent banker. Jealousy soon be- comes evident with the result that the dancer stabs her partner · to death in the course of their act,
The way in which the proprietor of the night club (Ål Jolson) gets rid of the body while at the same time endeavouring to get on with the show 'makes the picture both entertaining and thrilling.
Al Jolson - proves himself to be as entertaining as ever as the club proprietor and sings two cat- chy songs, while the rest of the cast contributed to the success of the picture in no small measure.

"I can't imagine why it is” Ruggles said during the filming of "Murder in the Private Car", in which he plays a mysterions and strictly sober de-flector or sinister crime, "but they've quit writing drunk parts for me since liquor was legalized. Before that I was asked to be ofled at least once in every picture."
His part in "Murder in the Private Car" is exacting that he has to be sober every minute, for he is called upon to protect Una Merkal. Mary Carlisle, Russell Hadle and others in the cast from a succession of fearful fates. They are
menaced by wrecks, glant gorillas, assassing and a variety of dire horrors from beginning to end.
