RICA'S CUP

· Rainbow Wins

-01

Newport, RI., Sept 20. The weather forecast for day's race in the America's cup is gentle to moderate northwester ly wind, cloudy, benefitting the Rainbow skipper who has been praying for light air.

4

The betting is 1 to 4 on the En- deavour to win the series "and 4 to 5 on her to win to-day.

Mr. Vanderbilt," interviewed by Reuter, admitted that the Endeav- our was faster than the Rainbow. Held my boat is only faster than the Endeavour to wind and Night air because my crew are more powerful in every, other départ- ment of sail ng.”

He continued that he would not change the Rainbow anyway as suggested since be thought it im- possible to improve.

'At 7 a.m. there was a flat cau with occasional parts from the northwest not exceeding four miles per hour. Visibility, was not over a mile. At 9 o'clock the wind was perhaps slightly stronger than yesterday. but the chances of racing to-day are considered to be small. There is a light groun swell outside. At 11. a.m. the breeze was steadily increasing, ap- 'proximately 8 to 10 an hour to the northeast. At 11.18 a duc 'east course" was set southwest by west. It will be the leeward leg first.

A LOVELY START

The race started at 11.40 a.m., the Endeavour grossing the line two minutes later ahead of Rain- bow. Both are going under main sails and Genoa gibs.

It was a lovely start with En- deavour on Rainbow's weather. Rainbow then set her spinnaker.

Market Reports Favourable factors prior to the apening of the market were: 1. Rally in the bond market.

Unfavourable factors:-

1. The commodity markets con- tinue to be unsettled.
