SUBMARINE BUILDING

AGREEMENT

Important Statement By Head Of Vickers

The full approval of the British Admiralty had been obtain- ed in 1900 for an agreement between Vickers and the Electric Boat Company for building submarines, declared Sir Charles' Craven, managing director of Messrs. Vickers in an interview In connection with the United States Senate enquiry.

Sir Charles said that the trial of the first submarine built by Vickers was actually carried out by the officials of the Elec- tric Boat Company and butt for that Company the British Gov. ernment would have had no submarines.

"There are others to consult before I can make any state- ment and I don't think it is necessary to say anything," he added-Renter.

Washington Sept, 4. Striking revelations regarding the building of submarines were made to-day by Mr. Henry Carse when giving evidence before a Senate Commitee of Enquiry into the relations between Unlied States armaments manufacturers and large foreign firms.

Mr. Henry Carse is the "Pre- sident of the Electric Boat Cam- pany. the fargest submarine- building firm in the United States, and he admitted that his com- pany and the more famous British armaments firm, Vickers Limited, have divided the world into ex- clusive areas for the sale of sub marines.
