POST OFFICE REPORT
ISSUED
Decrease In Mail Matter Handled Shown
Sheißtral, Aug. 23. The report of the Post Office fiscal year July 1, 1932, to June 30, 1933, just issued by the Directorate General of Posts, records a dê-
cline in business over the previous year and a still further deficit iri their operation.
This is largely blamed on the' lass of the Three Eastern Fro- vinces and Jehol and, as the re- port states, this loss made the dif- terence between a vast increase of business and the regrettable drop recorded. In addition to these difficulties the bandit conditions in Klangai, Hupeh and Hunan, with the trouble in Sinklang, has caused the severance of communications with" these areas and a corres ponding decrease in the carrying of mall matter.
The Air Ma

The largest, quantity in any other postal district was Klangsu- Ahhwel known in postal circles as . Su-Wan, where 100.849,600 pieces were handled.
The policy of strict financial re- trenchment had necessarily to be continued. The budget, owing to the causes already mentioned, could not be balanced and again a large deficit was recorded. Re| venue receipts decreased by ·à Hittle over 1 million dollars, but expenditure was pared down to nearly 2 million dollars under that of the previous fiscal year.. The figures for the year under review do not include those of the Three Eastern Provinces from which the Postal service has been completely withdrawn. The omission of these important dis- tricts reduces the total of articles of mail matter posted for trans- mission and local delivery to 739 millioris, & decrease of '98 millions when compared with the figures for the previous year, which in cluded 77.9 millions for mall mate ter posted in the Three Eastern

A slight decrease was noted in articles for air transmission, the figure for the year being 3,593,500 as again 3,740,500 for the year pre- vious.
Parcel Post
No less than 5,930,100 parcels were handled during the year and, although this shows a decrease of over half a million in number, the total weight carried actually, in- creased from 46,049,800 kilogram-

The number of telegrams des- patched on behalf of the Telegraph a smaller number Office, shows than for the two years previous, 2 total of only 24.870 being handled. This is roughly 6.000 less than the year before.
Domestic Money Orders
The decrease in the number of money orders issued was not great, 5,329,400 as against 5,409,300, but the value decreased by nearly 420,- 000,000 which can, without doubt, be ascribed to the uncertain busi- "ness conditions during the year.
