London, Aug 4. Major Alexander Buchan Fyffe. M.C., well known in South African sporting and Journalistic circles. has died suddenly at Bloemfon- tein. Orange Free State. He was born at the Perthshire hamlet of Glendolck 64 years ago.

He was a foundation member of the South African Journalists' Society and elected a life member £t the last annual conference. He started his career as an apprentice with his father in the last building trade and later become an artisan, contractor, soldier, and journalist "During the war he tried to 10n up in London" (Britain), but was turned down on account of his age. He returned to Bouth Africa and served in the South-West and East African campaigns, was pro moted major in 1917, and awarded the Military Cross.
