During the War he was torpedo officer of the Auda- cious, and after she was sunk by mine, of the new battleship War- spite. At the Jutland battle his coolness, ability and resource. especially after he had had a miraculous escape in the torpedo control tower. were referred to in The official report as "most praise worthy."
