THE EXPRESS AIR LINER Early yesterday afternoon I went up in the new De Havilland ex- press air liner. It was its first public demonstration fight...

All the passengers, the Franch, not, least, were astonished at the speed of what is, I believe, the fastest four-engined commercial aeroplane in the world.

RISE IN RUBBERNECKS The most encouraging news from the hotel-keepers' point of view, however, is that American visitors are increasing greatly after three years of decline.

In March 1507 American subjects arrived in England. A leading group of luxury hotels report an increase of between 30 per cent, and 40 per cent, in their American bookings.

A POPULAR ADMIRAL. Admiral Sir John Kelly's ap-

pointment as First and Principal Alde-de-Camp to the King will be welcomed in the Navy. No naval officer is really popular until he is awarded a nickname, and the fact that Sir John has been "Joe" to his shipmates for more than thirty years speaks for itself.

The Navy has not forgotten that he took over command of the Home (then the Atlantic) Fleet at a critical period in the autumn of 1931, and left it two years later at the highest pitch of efficiency.

This year Sir John will complete

Atty years of service. Early in the war, as captain of the Dublin, he took part in the pursuit of the Goeben-co-operating with his brother, Adm 8ir Howard Kelly, who commanded the Gloucester.

Incidentally Sir John immediate- ly precedes his brother in seniority in the admirals lists, a coincidence which must be almost unique in the annals of the Navy,
