Police tax is paid one half by landlords and the other half by tenants, the amount of rent being a basis for payment. Many tenants and landlords reported a lesser amount of the actual rent, A landlord would build a penthouse on the roof top and secure more tenants without paying police tax.

Paramount In Trouble For having taken a cameraman of the Paramount Film Corpora¬ tion to record sound pictures in a nunnery in Wai Fook Road, Mr. Chu Ying Chiao, manager of the local Grand Theatre is required by the police authorities to furnish, a guaranty by two leading shops that the sound negatives will be returned here to be destroyed.
