Edinburgh, May 20. Forming a valuable ink between the North of England and the of hostels, and Border chain described by Lord Salvesen is much the anest hostel in Scot-

Castle Fernleherst land, opened for hikers on Saturday.

Situated about two miles from the heart of a Jedburgh, in wooded stretch of country, the castle has been put at the dis- posal of the Scottish Youth Hos- tels' Association by the Marquis of Lothian.

As the ancient stronghold of the Kerts. forebears of Lord Lothian, it was the scene of many battles between Scots and Eng- fish, and was laid..in ruins more than önce.

Offering accommodation for 10 men anl 20 women, the castle will make an admirable hostel. The large banqueting hall will again serve as a dining-room. The bed- rooms are on the top flat, reach- ed by narrow turret-stairs,

Lord Lothian sald when it was suggested that the castle might be used as a hostel the doubt that crossed his mind was whether the English were yet to be trusted. (Laughter.)
