Shanghai, May 29,
of the No further definition weight and fineness of the dollar for the $7,000,000 loan to be issued by the Shanghal Municipal Coun- ell than "Chinese Standard Sliver Dollars" will be given, according to a statement issued yesterday by the Council. In the Treasurer's opinion the obligation to provide funds for the equivalent of the silver content of the dollar at any time would be an improper burden to impose upon the ratepayers.
"The Shanghai Municipal Coun- ell's decision to authorize an issue of debentures to the nominal value $7,000,000, such issue to form of $15,500,000 part of the loan approved at the last Ratepayers' Meeting, followed a recommenda- tion to this effect made by the Treasurer and Controller and en- dorsed by the Finance Committee," the Council statement said.

The A. O. F. Co. has received the following riport from their New York correspondents, E. A. Pierce & Co. The tone today was at least tentatively encouraging and there are some grounds for believing that the market has reacher the bottom. The stock market Bill has been passed by both Houses and is now in the hands of the President for signature.
Wheat: Prices opened higher but sold off sharply on realising Sales were induced principally by reports of actual and prospective rains in the variona wheat belts. Conditions became extremely nervous and erratic with fairly wide fluctuations, but prices later rallied slightly on the belief that the expected rain would not amount to much.
