Constable AssanÏted.

Accused of having assaulted a Chinese constable and then having had to be carried for about 100 yards along Oage Street before he became willing to walk the rest of the way to Central Police Station, a Hoklo named Lam. Kat was charged before Mr. Macfadyen af Central Magistracy yesterday, with assaulting and realsting the con- stable in the execution of his duty. He was Aned $50 or, in default, one month's hard labour.

Constable C. 61 L Chu said he was on duty in Bonham strand East when he saw the men peep- Ing into the doorway of No. 15. He shouted at him asking, what he was doing. No reply being forth- coming, the constable put his hand on the man's shoulder and re- quested a search. The defendant resented this and struck the con- stable a blow on the nose. He was pushed off and fell back hitting his head against the wall #e made a second and then a third Pitack. He then grabbed the con- stable's left hand and bit it, and using both hands, prevented the policeman from drawing his trun- cheon. Releasing his grip, the constable blew his whistle" and while doing so, the defendant took hold, of his truncheon and struck him in the back.

Detective-Sergeant Yip Chak came on the scene and, with the aid of the constable, managed to drag him to the junction of Well- ington Street and Queen's Road Central, where they met Sergeant Slater. In Gage Street, the 'man attempted to kick both policemen and as a last resort they carried him bodily along Gage Street for a distance of a hundred yards.

Then came the last incident. The punch, a severe one, struck Harvey in the abdomen, and this time Harvey, his face twisted with agony, staggered across the ring and fell to one knee. The timekeeper started to count and stopped. The referee stood with his back to the ropes looking at Harvey. People began to shout At the referee and then he called to the M.C., who climbed into the ring and announced that Tarante was disqualified,
