Not for the past five years have Wharves and Lands touched the low figures of this morning, the former declining to $100 and the latter to 300, on which basis, some transactions took place. Utilities. however, were generally firm, par- ticularly Hong Kong Trams and Telephones: Some dealings in Ewas also took place in fairly large quantities, both for dash and for- ward, on the basis of $10.60 cash.

Opinions remain sharply divided on the question of further business.improvement at this particular time and perhaps this difference of opinion furnishes one reason for the uncertain tone. We see no particular change in the immediate future.
Wheat. There was conewed liquidation due to fear of rain, which is doubtful and to the subsidence of inflation possibilities. Shorts seem te be the only buying power.
Cotton: Prices: closed at what was practically the low levels for the day. There was heavy liquidation of near months and the rallying power of the market was feable. Worth Street was quiet and easy."
Silver: Heavy selling was credited to Far-Eastern accounts together ...with local liquidation on the uncertainty in connection with silver legisla tion becoming uncovered, stop-loss orders causing a break. Liquidation for blay was absorbed on the scale-down by interests with banking connee-
