Saturday's football resulted in a slight check for the Arsenal, who had to concede a point to Stoke City, and with Hudders- feld "winning by the narrowest possible margin, the latter placed themselves slightly in front of the "Arsenal In the Premier League. Grimsby strengthened her position at the head of the Second Division, while four others at the top also gained full points, Port, Vale falling to one of them.

St. Mirren performed a great fent in eliminating Motherwell from the Scottish Cup, and qualified "for the final with the Rangers, who got through by the only goal in their encounter with St. Johnstone.
