It his been reported recently from London that Sir John Simon, Min- ister of Foreign Affairs, had stated in the House of Commons that the arrears of interest due to British holders of Chinese railway bonds amounted to more than £5,000,000, The Minister apparently was not and laboured correctly informed under a misapprehension of the true facts in making this state- ment.

As at the end of December, 1933.. the arrears of interest due to British railway bondholders amo unted to £2.212.098, and arrears in principal payments to £3,556,610. Asia Landa, Limited, has received the following report from their New York correspondents, E. A. Pierce & Co. We can see no change in the market. No one seems to be willing to take a position either way and everyone appears to be waiting developments.

Wheat: There has been less pressure. Cash bouses are buying for May and selling for July and September. There have been dust storms in the Kansas and Dakota sections of the wheat Belt.

Cotton: Higher cables from abroad were ignored by the Trade, which disapproves of certain amendments to the Baekhead Bill. Towards the close there was some buying on Bombay account.

Silver: The up-turn in price mat with increased commission-hous selling and some liquidation, but offerings were well absorbed. Bome traders were inclined to hold off pending farther developments regarding silver legislation. The regular dividend has been paid for Americas Waterworks.

Business Done: 840,000 shares.
