Strange Instance Of Coincidence

When a banishee' was arrested on. Information in Gresson Street, he started to make trouble and this brought upon the scene, amongst others. two chauffeurs, who found that the clothing worn by the defendant belonged to them. The man was brought before Mr. Hamilton yesterday on a charge of

returning from banishment and on charges of having stolen a grey tweed sult, a razor, a woollen fer-

sey. a white slaglet and two pairs of trousers, the property of Yip Sheng, and a brown tweed overcoat containing $1.12 from Yeung Hop. Mr. Hamilton imposed 12 months hard labour'on the first charge and three months' each on the two larceny charges, the sentences to run concurrently.

Pleading gulity to a charge of theft of a brass fuse link and key, an unemployed Chinese was sen- tenced to four months' hard labour. Sub-Inspector Kirby said that about 3 p.m. on Wednesday defen- dant was seen by a detective on patrol near Jardine's Bridge.

he was acting in a suspicious man- ner. the detective searched him and found the link and the key in his pockets. Defendant admitted Having stolen them from a dis- tributing pillar near the Bridge.

The Officer said he had been instructed to ask for a serious view to be taken of the case. because for every link stolen the fuses were disconnected and lights in the arra put out. It meant a loss of $50 to the Hong Kong Electric Company. There had been several such thefts before. Defendant was previously employed in the Hong Kong Electric Company.

Chinese Youth Discharged

Ng Wa Ying, a Chinese youth was charged before Mr. Lee at the Kowloon Magistracy yesterday on a charge of attempted theft of a motor car hörn.

Inspector McWalter stated that complainant left his motor cycle ontside the Nathan Road Hotel at 7 pm on Wednesday and went into the hotel.

A few minutes later he heard the sound of his horn, and looking out

of the window of the hotel, suw defendant walking hurriedly away. He rushed down to his cycle but found the horn intact except that the bulb had been unscrewed, more than half way out. Vincent stated the defendant was a persistent beggar.
