Asia Landa, Limited, has received the following report from their New York correspondents, E. A. Pierce & Co. There was nothing of importance today, except for the strength of silver stocks due to continued belief that Congress will enact measures designed to raise the price of silver. The House Coinage Committee has reported favourably on two silver bills; one provides for the exchange of American agricultural. exports for silver, while the other is a silver purchase measure providing for Government purchase of a maximum of 1,400,000,000 ounces of the metal at market price. The purchases would be made at the rate of 26,000,000 ounces monthly for six months and 10,000,000 ounces monthly after that until the 1920 price level had been restored.
Wheat: The market was dull and featureless until the last hour, when prices advanced on short covering and the announcement of a forthcoming silver bill:
Cotton: The market was a small affair and the Trade is awaiting the action on the Bankhead Measure.
