London, January 17. With the announcement Monday of the results of the Na- tional Provincial Bank and Festerday of those of the West- minster · Bank the proft dividend statements of the "B! Five" banks
now complete. In every case the dividends are maintained at the rates paid for 1932, but, while three of the banks report a moderate increase in their profits, the other two show a slight reduction. In the aggregate, the profits of the five banks amount to £8,378,725, compared with £8,232,157 for 1932. It should be noted, however, that the respective institutions follow a varying pesc- tice in striking their profit figures. The results are considered very good, in the market,, having regard to the low level of money rates during the greater part of 1933. Other factors have compensated to

Asia Landa, Limited, has received the following report from their New York correspondents, E. A. Pierce & C. The most common reason for the weakness today was the French political crisis, although other quarters gave as reason the poor technical condition as indicated by the failure of prices to penetrate last year's tops, So far the reaction has followed a technical pattern and it is impossible to reach a definite conclusion as to whether it has run its course.
Wheat: The decline in stocks, with a report of some rain in the South-West, caused set-backs Buying power was limited and needs new inspiration to maintain an advance in prices
Cotton: Very active, touching now high levels at the opening, aided by strong Liverpool and broad European demand. The get-back later was due to heavy realising and Southern selling. The market closed strong, however.
Bilver: The advance in London and Shanghai brought more commis-. sion house support and short covering, Washington silver news was givens wide recognition but such action may be delayed until the other nations signatory to the London Silver Agreement, have ratified. Business Doné: 4,500,000 shares.
