The Governor
PRESENTATION TO
MR. HO KOM TONG
"
The annual inspection by His Excellency the Governor, Sir William Peel, K.C.M.G., Knight of Grace of the Order of St. John, was held yesterday on the Murray Parade Ground.
A very large number of residents of all nationalities were present including H.E. Major-General O. C. Bor- relt, Cominodore Elliot, Hou. Mr. C. G. Alabaster, Mr. T. H. King, Dr. A. R. Wellington, C.M.G., Mesara. G W. Tickle, IL. MacPherson, Kwok Siu. Lau, Tang Sin Kin, Chan Tung Sang, Fung Heung Chuen, Mok Kon Sang, Kwan Chan, Ng Wak, Ip Lan Chuen, Rev. G. T. Waldegrave and officers of H.M. Services and their wives.
Behind the lines of the Brigade was the band of the 1st Battalion East Lancashires who played appropriate items both before and during the inspection. A small flagstaff erected just in front of the matshed, and on the table just behind the trophies (to be presented after the inspection) made a brave display.
When His Excellency accompanied by Lady Peel, Major-General Borrett and Commodore Elliot had taken up their positions, the Royal Salute was given and the Union Jack run up the flag staff.
DISTRIBUTION OF BRIGADE PRIZES
After the inspection, an interest- ing demonstration was given by the various divisions of the Brigade after which His Excellency pre- sented the prizes.
A hollow square was then form- ed and His Excellency presented Mr. Ho Kom Tong, O.BE., Knight of Grace of the Order of St. John with a Vellum of thanks awarded by the Chapter General of the Order for valuable services fender- ed. Long Service medals were also presented to Ambulance Officer M. A. Khan (Indian Division) and Ambulance Officer Wong Kam Cheung (Y.M.C.A. Division).
The trophies were then, present- ed to the following Divisions:--
Ralph Shield: Won by YMCA
Division.
Savage Memorial Cup: Won by
Kowloon Division. Mok Cho Chuen Cup thest squad for First Aid); Won by YMCA Division..
Lau Chu Pak Duty Cup: Won by
Mongkok Division. Holyoak Attendance Cup: Won
by Railway Division. Wong Kwong Tin Vaccination Cup: Won by Chinese Ath- letic Division.
It is however in" connection with vaccination and hearth work... in the New Territories that your ser- vices have been particularly out- standing. In the Winter of 1932/3, owing to the outbreak of smallpox, the work of vaccination was particularly heavy. The Division performed no less than 430,452 vaccinations. It is dimeul adequately to express the value of this work to the Colony as a whole. Indeed without your assistance would have been very difficult to have carried out such work.

After the prizes had been pre- sented His Excellency addressed the Brigade, and then followed the March Past which concluded the inspection.
