man, must, after all, find his own way. Perhaps that is how it should be. Peace is hardly to be attained by a single panacea. It will be the result of empiric methods, and above all of a general resolve to keep peace.
It may be doubted whether there is such a general resolve now. Mr. Woolf quotes influential politieal leaders who repudiate the doctrines of paciЛsmi. Sir Norman, Angell shows that war is not the inevit- able outcome of human nature; it springs from faulty organization, from international anarchy. War is, therefore, not in itself inevit- able. but it may be inevitable if International anarchy prevails. In another chapter he is at his best in the consideration of the part which education must play in the perpetuation of peace.

It is with, much regret that we have to report the death of Mr. James Cornell, a well known figure on the China" Coast. Mr. Cornell >who has been out East for Marine over 30 years was Engineer.
Deceased was taken ill a few days ago, Pneumonia developed and he died at 2 a.m. on Tuesday at his residence, No. 4. Arran Street, Mongkok. He was 57 years of age.
Coming out East as & young man, the late Mr. Cornell was well-known all along the China Coast. He had been on several ships plying in these waters. and for several years a resident in Shanghai. During the last 15 years he had been in Hong Kong. The last ship with which deceas- ed was connected is believed to be the sa. Halvard.
Deceased was a native of Scot- land, hailing from Renfrewshire.
