London, January 2,

The bestowal of honours upon Canadians for the first time since 1919, when the King was petitioned to retrain from granting further titles to the Dominion's citizens, is perhaps the most interesting feature of the New Year Honours List.

World Court President Str Cecil Hurst enters to-day upon his term of three years as President of the World Court of Justice at The Hague in succession to the eminent Japanese Jurist, M. Adatci.

The list was submitted for the King's consideration by the Cana- dian Premier. Mr. R. B. Bennett, on his own responsibility. Earlier this

year he tabled a written opinion in Parliament expressing the view that the motion carried in 1919 was rot binding upon sub- sequent Administrations.

That motion was the outcome of an, agitation which had started as early as 1917, largely born of the unpopularity of one or two persons on whom honours lately been, bestowed.

Weather Contrasts

It is curious how little guide to Atlantic conditions can be obtain ed from the weather in the British Isles." While a friend of mine in Northern Ireland has been playing coli in brilliant sunshine, London has endured a continuous pall of motionless fog.
