NOTE-Ali Steamboat Company's Steamers are fitted with Wirelesn

By far the most striking of these was Miss Holme-Sumner sister of last week's bride, who wore an iron grey three quarter length coat and an amusing little stocking cap bunched up on the top of her head. Miss Stub- bings looked very neat in a grey- brown mixture with tiny hat to match. while Lady Mary. Barton and Mrs. Durran both wore green checks, of a rather large weave. Mrs. Alec Potts was there, of ourse, attended by small son and puppy, and Colonel and Mra

Raikes

were accompanied by their two daughters, Dorothea and Leth. Mrs. Carrington Sykes wore a three quarter coat of royal blue over a checked blue and white skirt, and Mrs. Fowkes was in small checks with à bright scarf and a blue tam o'shanter hat Mrs. Macgowan wore brown checks, Mrs. Bour- field reddish brown and Mrs. Platt blue and white. Miss Pot- ter was there with M Mossop, both in brown, and with them was Mr. Don Evans, in tweed silk scarf. sull, blue beret, and SOME OF THE RIDERS

The Ladies' Race was an excel- lent one, resulting in a very close anish. Miss Scott Harston and Mrs. Peter Williams covered the country together almost all the way, the latter's yellow shirt making her easy to distinguish all round the course. Another splash of colour was Miss Bon- nar in "scarlet, while Mrs. Barry wore a mulberry jersey, Mrs. Portland rode side-saddle: So did Mrs. Stanton, who was hack- ing with Mrs. Hull and Mrs. Mc-. Avoy. There were several other competitors, among these being Mrs. St. Clair Ford, Mrs Mc- Erayne, and Miss Gerrard.

TEA DANCES."

I was having a chat over a tea- table the other afternoon and the conversation turned on the sub- Naturally ject of rendezvous. there was dissention as to the cosiest place for a chat OFFIC and opinions differed, the Gloe- cester and Lane Crawford's bay-

ing a fair share of support be- sides the China Emporium and the Roof Garden of the Hong Kong Hotel. I must confess to a sneaking fancy for the Roof Garden myself and I believe that the tea dances up there are as popular as anywhere.

was

I went up to the Roof Garden, as a matter fact, last Sunday. It was "fortinate that we booked a table for we should never have got a place otherwise, even though we arrived very soon after five o'clock. It

packed! There was a predominance, of Chinese, of course, as there usual- ly 15, though I have noticed more Europeans there as time goes on. I saw Miss Lily Sung dancing with the popular violinist. Harry

choco Leung, she was wearing. late costume what hat to match Mrs. Nellie Tang was there with her husband, and I also noticed Mr. Parkson Chan, dancing with a charming young girl who, I was told, is a new arrival to the Colony. Then at another table were Miss Fanny Wu and her sister Lillian, the former in a stunning dark blue silk dress with a pattern of, pale blue flowers and a short black jacket. Mrs. Shek in gun-metal and grey silk, a most attractive combina- tion, was with her husband.

As usual the music was excel- lent. It is rather amusing how makes “Shuffle: Off to Buffalo nearly everybody get up at the same time and enter the floor. The only fault I had to find is that there was not enough waltzes. We have plenty of blues" and foxtrots but they played only one waltz the whole afternoon.
